"The more things persist, the more they are allowed to" could refer to so much in public life that even 10 years ago might have seemed unthinkable.
To the extent that Obama and probably Biden leave Peltier in jail to avoid offending the FBI and their secret service details, I think the SDNY office and Tony Ornato should really free them up from that concern and finally pardon Leonard Peltier.
Vonnegut wasn't the best writer ever-- always a tad clunky-- but surely one of the most intelligent.
